Discover and understand the different layers of soil and why they are important using Lego!
 

 

 

Each layer of soil is important. 

 

Soil is formed over a long period of time for a number of reasons. It can take up to 1000 years for just a few centimetres of soil to form. Over the time that soil is formed, factors that help soil to form which are:

 

Living Organisms like plants, fungi, animals and bacteria

 

Topography This is the slope of the surface of land where the soil is forming.

 

The Weather and Climate of where the soil is being formed

 

Parent Material - by this scienctists and geologist mean the minerals and the rocks that are gradually being whithered away, disintergrating to form new soil.
